The so-called civilized world we live in makes it difficult to maintain youthful attributes and stay healthy. Fast food, pollution, low and non-nutrition processed edibles eaten as food, stress, medications, lack of adequate information and our own negligence contribute to health problems and signs of premature aging.
To get around it, you can do one of two things: just let it happen or be on the offensive with compensating measures.
If you want to be in charge of your aging process (and you can be), having a plan that includes a daily “do or die” regimen is vital. It must also be automatic. Discussion with yourself about “should I or shouldn’t I do it today, or “do I have time today” isn’t allowed. You just do it. That’s one of my major rules to successfully control the aging process.
What is a regimen? It’s any system or procedure you devise that you believe is essential to maintain and improve your health. It should also help you be where you want your health and life to be in 25 years.
In 2005 the Alzheimer’s Association (AA) awarded 92 grants totaling $17.8 million, pushing the Association’s funding for Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) research since 1982 to over $185 million.
Of the 92 grants, just one went to the study of a nutritional supplement. The grant title: “Randomized Trial of a Nutritional Supplement to Reduce the Risk of Alzheimer’s Disease.”
What does negotiation have to do with longer life, you ask? Can you negotiate to live longer? In a manner of speaking, yes. A study funded by the National Institute of Health tells the story.
The point of the study was to take a look at people who lived to “extreme old age,” defined as 100, and figure out if the majority of them had anything in common. As a matter of fact, they do. If you’re thinking they never ate red meat, did daily yoga, and didn’t smoke or drink, you’re on the wrong track, though those things may be true too.
In case you need one more reason to quit smoking, recent studies suggest that smoking affects your sex life, especially for men. That’s a pretty powerful reason.
While an unfortunate fact of growing older is that there may be some performance problems in the bedroom, even men in their 20s and 30s who smoke report less vitality. This is not to suggest that females who smoke aren’t also affected sexually. But the research conducted using female subjects is minimal compared to research involving males.
Stress happens. Sometimes it’s no big deal. Other times, you want to scream or throw something or eat an entire devil’s food cake… whatever relieves the pressure. But all of those things have consequences. There is a way to deal with stress that is free, convenient, private, enormously effective, and the only consequence is… you’ll feel better.
