I recently attended a concert at a church in another community. In the pew was a card that was titled “I Wish….” The list of check-off boxes provided an easy way for someone to make known the things they might want from this church and its ministry.
It also got me thinking about wishes. Remember when you made wishes over your birthday cake? Do you still do that?
Some of you said ‘No.’ For many people, as they age, the concept of ‘wishing’ takes on a childish or passive connotation. They ‘outgrow’ that part of themselves that believes that wishes can come true.
But I think that a ‘Wish List’ is a good thing to think about and attend to -- especially as we age. Having hopes and dreams is an important part of maintaining a positive, healthy attitude. It’s something everyone can do regardless of age, education, income, work history or health status.
Author Richard Bach told us “You are never given a wish without also being given the power to make it come true. You may have to work for it, however.” It was Einstein whose work proved that there are various levels and types of energy. Even skeptics can probably make room for the idea that wishes are a form of energy. And what you put out will come back to you.
What if our wishes could take on a life of their own? When we dare to open our minds and hearts to possibility, we emit energy that can attract the people and circumstances that will help our dreams to come true. Can you afford to ignore that idea?
Try it. What have you got to lose? Most who do are pleasantly surprised. What do you think you would find? My guess is that some of your wishes will be reasonable, attainable and possible. Maybe you wish to see your children and grandchildren more often. Maybe you’ve always wanted to go to a baseball game or longed to be part of a signing group. Committing it to paper may help you figure out how that could happen.
Write it down, read it every day and watch what happens. I wish you all the best.
