Frequently Asked Questions

Who should use the Power -V- Grip?  Anyone who wants to advance their game, learn new grips, correct a major weakness, add a serious weapon.  It is especially beneficial for juniors to get off to a good start with one of the power grips, the Semi-Western or Western forehand.  It is essential that promising young juniors learn to move their hand correctly for the various grips and do not ingrain into their game weak hand / wrist positions that will greatly impede their development.  Bad habits learned early are very hard to correct in the future.

Does it take long to master the Power -V- Grip?  It all depends, some people adjust almost immediately others it takes a number of sessions to completely work it into every aspect of their game.  Work with it, understand it, conquer it, soon the light will come on.  This process and a new awareness will not only help you master the advantages of the Power -V- Grip but will carry over to other aspects of your game.  That is one of the great gifts of the Power -V- Grip, you will fall in love with, the Process, of understanding and improving.

How long is the Power -V- Grip?  It is 6 1/4 " long.  It can be attached its full length but we recommend that you cut it so the beveled tip is functional on the continental and eastern backhand. It can be modified to fit your exact hand size.

How much does it weight?  Approximately .65 of an ounce the full ledngth.

Do I have to cut the Power -V- Grip?  No, actually a lot of players who have two-handed backhands don't cut the PVG.  The reason I recommend cutting the PVG is so you can use the beveled tip with the Continental grip on serves, volleys, and backhands. It provides a great frame of reference for moving your hand on the handle to find the various grips plus additional leverage and traction.  Some people even cut it a little shorter so they can notch their index finger around the beveled tip for their Eastern backhand grip for the one handed backhand.  With the PVG notched in their knuckles and the index finger wrapped around the beveled tip they can generate extreme racquet head speed with no fear of the racquet slipping out of their hand.

Does it affect the balance of the racquet?  Not really, or to any noticeable degree.  Why not?  Look at it this way, if a person with a small hand and person with a large hand play with the same racquet, is the balance of the racquet different?  No, but in reality the racquet might be head heavy to the person with the small hand and would be head light to the person with the large hand.  (The fulcrum point would be further up the handle for the person with the larger hand.)  I like to think of the PVG as actually part of the hand vs. part of the racquet.

How long will the PVG last?  Probably your entire playing career but we are happy for you. You cannot wear it out if attached properly.  It is the best value in tennis.

What about shock absorption?  The Power -V- Grip is a specially molded product made from 100% Sorbothane, the registered trade mark of Sorbothane Corporation.  It is this material that provides the great shock absorption properties plus the rugged durability.

Can professionals use it?  Yes. It has been approved by the USTA and the ITF.

Would you recommend it to a professional?  Absolutely.  The Power -V- Grip would give them superior leverage and traction and make the transition to the multiple grips they use so much easier and faster. You can always get better, but you have got to want it.  At that level you need an edge.  The PVG has advantages that are just not designed into the standard shaped handle.

Would you start off a promising young player with the PVG? Absolutely, and never look back. It is a tremendous advantage for serious junior players. It will give them an edge.
